Designed by dan Maples and Larry Young in 1986 and built on two historic rice plantations along the picturesque Waccamaw River, few courses capture the beauty and charm of the Southern landscape as well. Incorporating centuries old live oaks, lakes and marshes, this course follows the landโs natural contours and features wide rolling fairways with spacious undulating greens. Youโll pass by a 19th-century cemetery of a โrice princeโsโ family. There are countless 300-year-old Spanish-moss covered live oaks and residual ponds that once irrigated rice.
The course reeks of the Old South upon arrival with a monstrous, two-story, plantation-estate-looking, white-pillared clubhouse and vivid flowering plants across the front. Those modern-day automotive contraptions are parked at a discrete distance and a shuttle ferries golfers and bags.
The par-71 course is missing a par 5 on the front, but it still exceeds 7,000 yards from the tips and is 5,201 yards from the reds. This par 71 Dan Maples-designed course will be host to the โFather and Son Team Classicโ in July 2013.ย Your tee shot on the 175-yard par 3 13th hole is threatened by water surrounding the green.
The course gives you one warm-up hole before it throws a creative par-5 second hole at you. The second hole offers two fairways, the safer but longer route to the right avoids the water carry until a short chip shot to the green, or the shorter but more perilous left fairway that requires a good drive and strong second shot for a nice, dry, short iron to the elevated green over a raft of bunkers.
Built on a rice plantation, Heritage Clubโs oak-lined drive leads to a plantation style clubhouse.ย ย With large undulating greens and rolling fairways, the course challenges both the junior and senior players.ย The lakes and marshlands create a Low country beauty that is unmatched as the golfer finishes on a 470-yard par 5 and returns to the clubhouse. A very challenging course, with consistently good conditions. Practice range is a little distance from the pro shop, but a trolley cart will take you to & from it. Practice area is only decent, but the course is GREAT!!!! Meal was included with the package, and the food was very good.
Heritage Club is a Par 71 golf course that was designed by Dan Maples and Larry Young and spans over 600 acres in size โ thatโs a lot of area to cover! This Myrtle Beach golf course has been given many accolades, including #7 in the Top 50 Courses in Myrtle Beach and in the Top 100 Public Golf Courses in the Country โ both by Golf Digest Magazine. Heritage Club also ranks in the top of courses to play in SC by GolfWeek. One of the reasons for the course being ranked so highly is the condition of the course, but also the natural beauty and surroundings. Large oak trees that are hundreds of years old, crepe myrtle trees, camellias, azaleas and of course Magnolia trees that you would expect on a former rice plantation are all landscape items that you can expect to surround all 18 holes of this gorgeous golf course.
When you add Heritage Club to your list of golf courses to play for your Myrtle Beach golf package, you not only get a great round of golf, but a little bit of a history lesson too. Just off the green on the 4thย hole, is where the family that maintained the original plantation are buried. On the 8thย hole, you will notice a sign on the tee box telling you that up ahead is a slave burial ground. Youโll also get an opportunity to test your skills at Heritage Golf Club with several forced carry shots over water and of course the greens at this golf course are especially difficult and will test your patience. Finishing up at the 18thhole is a risk-reward play, where if you are willing to take on the water in two shots, you could end up with an eagle putt to cap off your round.

Course is beautiful and in great shape. Pace of play and 1 hour delay in starting times was frustrating.
